Our chairman Richard is in Burkina Faso, in the region of Bobo Diassolou. So far he has visited two co-ops of cashew and mango farmers who supply Liberation with delicious cashews. He also spent time in a medical centre and maternity unit, both funded by Fairtrade premiums; one of his highlights was meeting a male midwife – a first!
While we all look hard for some good in the world this trip has really opened our eyes to the resilience and strength of humankind – in the face of what feels like insurmountable global pressure, life goes on. In the photo below we see a group of young children being looked after while their parents receive care in a local medical centre. On the left we have a photo of the male mid-wife Richard was so happy to meet last week – a dream come true for this young man. Our feature photo shows Richard with our co-operative farmers, all seeking a better way to do things and a better future for their families.
No matter where you come from in the world we all want the same things in life – health, prosperity, and for our dreams to come true – and we are very happy to report strong evidence of that happening here in Burkina Faso.
