Everyone at Liberation Foods is desperately sad to learn that Twin has gone into administration. Twin and other far sighted organisations were instrumental in setting up Liberation and other fair-trade companies.
We shared an office with Twin since our inception and have repeatedly been inspired by the amazing work it has done with smallholders. The Twin approach was truly unique. It challenged the process of trade using alternatives structures and most importantly, it put smallholder farmers first.
Liberation has collaborated with Twin in many ways. Together, we set out the Fairtrade standards for nuts and brought nut producers together to form the International Nut Cooperative. And since worked together on projects to improve the quality of nuts and help establish supply chains.
We are a separate company to Twin and we have no commercial links. We will trade as normal, with no disruptions. Our partnerships with smallholder farmers will remain the same – we will bring their excellent quality products to market across Europe. We will also endeavor to carry on Twin’s legacy and hope to work with more farmers in more origins in the near future.
Bob Trice, Interim Managing Director of Liberation, said on the behalf of the Board of Directors, “We have benefited from the expertise and advice given to us by Twin colleagues to develop nut supply chains. We will miss the whole team and we wish them well in their next roles. We will take their spirit and commitment to development through trade and ensure we continue our mission to benefit the farmers that own a 49% share of the company.”
